ABOUT THE SHOW

Based on the actual Newsboy Strike of 1899, this Disney musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly and his fellow newsies take action. With help from the beautiful female reporter Katherine Plumber, all of New York City soon recognizes the power of “the little man.” 




WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

 

7 non-dancing male leads, ages 25+ 

2 female leads, ages 18-40 

4 large boy's speaking parts ages 12-25 

Male & Female Ensemble/Vaudeville Performers/Small Speaking Parts

For a Successful Audition

Come Prepared With...

*1 minute memorized monologue from another musical

*16 measures of an upbeat musical theater song to sing (pianist will be available)

           
*Be prepared to read cold readings from the show.





Dance Information

*Wear comfortable jazz or similar shoes for dance audition. 


*Some major roles require strong jazz training and skills.  


*Less qualified dancers who show ability will also be cast. 


*If auditioning for a serious dancing part, come  appropriately dressed.

More Audition Information

*You do not need a reservation to audition.

*Auditions are held in small groups, first come, first served.  

*Each audition should take about 1 hour.  

*There is a participation fee of $75 for every participant in every Pickwick show, which is used to fund costumes, production costs, cast awards, dinners and gifts.

*All roles are open.  No roles have been pre-cast.

*All ages 12 and older are welcome to audition.

ABOUT THE SHOW

This tune-filled, heartwarming story is based on the real life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world's best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II. Maria, the tomboyish postulant at an Austrian abbey, becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain with seven children and brings a new love of life and music into the home.
